Experimental Powder from Pigs' Bladder Regrows Man's Finger

FoxNews.com
May 1, 2008

With the help of an experimental powder, a man’s severed finger has regrown to its original length in just four weeks, reports London’s Daily Mail.

Lee Spievack, of Cincinnati, who sliced almost half an inch off the top of one of his fingers, described the powder as “pixie dust,” according to the newspaper.

The “pixie dust” is actually extra-cellular matrix, bursting with collagen and is made from a dried pig’s bladder, the newspaper reports.

The dust was designed to regenerate damaged ligaments in horses, the Daily Mail said.

Collagen is known to give skin strength and elasticity. It is thought that the dust kick-starts the body's natural healing process by sending out signals that mobilize the body's own cells into repairing the damaged tissue, according to the newspaper.

Spievack said his finger even has a fingernail and fingerprint.

Geek reference... that's my girl! Smile

I don't think there is a bank in the country that could cash that. I seriously doubt any have that much real cash in their whole portfolio.

From http://news.sky.com/skynews:

HEDGEHOG 'USED AS WEAPON IN ATTACK'

A man in New Zealand has been accused of a prickly attack on a teenager - using a hedgehog as a weapon.

William Singalargh, 27, is said to have launched the spiky creature at a 15-year-old boy in the North Island east coast town of Whakatane.

The animal was later discovered dead but it was unclear whether it was alive when it was thrown.

The youth suffered several puncture wounds and a large gash to his leg but did not need hospital treatment.

Police arrested Singalargh shortly afterwards and was charged with assault using a weapon "namely the hedgehog".

He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Singalargh's lawyer said he intended to plead not guilty, The Herald On Sunday newspaper reported.

Senior Sergeant Bruce Jenkins said: "People often get charged with assault for throwing things at other people." However, he admitted the use of a hedgehog as a weapon was "uncommon".

It remains unclear if he will also face animal cruelty charges.

The Herald reported Singalargh's arrest under the headline "Raise your hands and step away from the hedgehog".

Man dies in spitting contest plunge

A SWISS man died when he fell from a hotel balcony during a spitting match with a friend, a Swiss newspaper has reported.

The daily Blick said the 29-year-old man took a run-up from inside the room so he could spit further, but lost his balance and plummeted 6.4m to the street below.

He died in hospital.

The man had suggested the contest when he and two friends returned from a disco to their hotel in Cadempino in Switzerland's Italian-speaking Ticino canton in the early hours.

One of the men went to sleep, but the two others decided to see who could spit furthest from the balcony of their room.

So that's why those engrish posts advise against spitting... hmmm

RUSSIAN DIES IN FISHING SHOCKER
Published: 5/13/2008

MOSCOW - A Russian man killed himself in an attempt to electrocute elusive fish in his local lake, police said on Tuesday.

The man, 63, resorted to high-voltage cables after complaining that fish were getting too hard to catch near his village of Gremyachka, some 250 kilometres (155 miles) southeast of the capital Moscow.

But the tactic backfired when the current from a 10 kilovolt overhead line instead surged through the hapless fisherman, who was wearing plastic boots and standing on a plastic mat, local police said in a statement.

“As soon as the man put the cables in the water, there was a powerful electric current. One of the cables hit his cheek and carbonised the left side of his body. He died immediately,” the statement said.

“Unfortunately, this is not the first incident in Ryazan region when similar attempts at poaching have had a lethal outcome,” the statement said.

DUTCH MAN INJURES POSTERIOR IN MOONING ACCIDENT
21-year-old Dutch Man Suffers Painful Injury In Mooning Mishap

UTRECHT, Netherlands, Jun. 3, 2008

(AP) Utrecht police say a 21-year-old Dutch man is recovering after a "mooning" that went horribly wrong.

A police statement says the man and two others had run down a street in Utrecht with their pants pulled down in the back "for a joke."

It says that at one point the 21-year-old "pushed his behind against the window of a restaurant" that broke and resulted in "deep wounds to his derriere."

The statement released Tuesday says police detained the three men after the incident Sunday morning. But the cafe owner decided not to press charges after the men agreed to pay for the broken window.

The injured man was treated for his injuries at a nearby hospital.
