I will probably catch a lot of slack from women for saying this. But I don't believe men and women are equal. They think differently (we even use different parts of our brains), cope differently and men are stronger in different ways than women. For instance, men may be stronger (in general) than women in certain ways, but women are stronger in handling pain (take monthly cycles or childbirth, for example). Women are generally more emotional than men. Men are far less patient than women. Men are hunters. Women are nurturers.
Here's what was found in a study on shopping:
"In Why We Buy, The Science of Shopping, Paco Underhill sees this pattern play out in physical shopping environments. Men usually go directly to what they need in a store by the shortest possible route and then leave. It’s a hunter’s approach to navigating the mall.
But women are the nurturers and gatherers. They employ social networks for information, make comparisons to select the best option, maintain and strengthen family connections, and generally are more “tuned in” to their emotional environments."
I'm pretty-much an old-fashioned gal. While Tim and I share in decision-making and he doesn't treat me like I should be a "submissive" wife without a mind of my own, I still believe that the man should, ultimately, be the head of the household. I believe a wife should answer to God first, and her husband second.
Tim treats me as his equal in many marital aspects, but we both understand that men & women just aren't the same. _________________

Aw, who are you kidding. You're the boss, everyone knows it.
I agree though. Men and women have different strengths, but overall, I think they balance out. One could not survive without the other. |

Darn it, honey ... I nearly had them convinced that I was a good, quiet little wifey.

You won't catch and flack from me for saying that. I don't believe that men and women are equal.
Everything from how we process information, coping skills, communication, hormones, etc. are different.
We each have our strengths and weaknesses and as a species come together well to balance each other out, but to say that we are equal is rediculous to me.
There are exceptions to every rule, of course. And many women can do the same things that men can do. Many men can do the same things women can, but that doesn't mean that they'll get done the same way or with the same guidelines. |
